Colonial Virginia Jeopardy Game (SOL VS.4) – PowerPoint & Google Slides

This Colonial Virginia Jeopardy Game includes a fun, Jeopardy-style game to review agriculture and tobacco, cultural groups in colonial Virginia, race-based enslavement in Virginia, colonial economics, and moving the capital to Williamsburg. Versions of the review game are included for both PowerPoint and Google Slides.

What will students review with this Colonial Virginia Jeopardy Game?

25 questions are included in a Jeopardy-style game to review and practice the following skills:

• explain how the culture of colonial Virginia reflected the culture of Indigenous people, European immigrants (English, Germans, and Scots-Irish, and Africans)
• show where cultural groups settled on a map of Virginia
• distinguish between indentured servants and enslaved people
• describe laws in the 1600s and 1705 that established race-based enslavement
• explain the reasons for relocating Virginia’s capital from Jamestown to Williamsburg
• explain the importance and influence of agriculture
• explain how Virginia’s cash crop (tobacco) contributed to race-based enslavement
• describe ways people exchanged goods and services in colonial Virginia

Each question is linked to a slide with the answer so that students can quickly and easily check their answers.

What formats of the game are provided?

This resource includes versions of the Colonial Virginia Jeopardy Game for BOTH PowerPoint and Google Slides. The questions used with each version are the same.

How is this Virginia Studies interactive game played?

The PowerPoint version of this Jeopardy-style game should be played in presentation mode. Category values disappear when they are clicked on. The category values can be reset anytime by exiting the presentation and reopening it. You can type scores onto a scoreboard while playing in presentation mode. The presentation has been coded to help you easily navigate from the category board to questions and answers without scrolling.

The Google Slides version of this Jeopardy-style review game should be played in full screen, edit mode. Instructions and a video tutorial are provided that show how this is done. You can type scores onto a scoreboard but the category values do not disappear when they are clicked on. This is a limitation of Google Slides. But, markers are provided alongside the category board that you can drag and drop over the category values after they have been used. The presentation has been coded to help you easily navigate from the category board to questions and answers without scrolling.
