Are you looking for a fun way to review the U.S. Constitution and early American government? Look no further! This U.S. Constitution Escape Room has everything you need! Whether teaching remotely or in-person, this classroom escape room is easy to set up, and students will have lots of fun reviewing what they have learned!
In this U.S. Constitution Escape Room, students are in the process of time traveling back in time to study early American government when their time machine malfunctions! The only way to repair the time machine and return to the present is for students to successfully complete seven challenges.

What will students learn with this classroom escape room?
Topics covered:
- the problems with the Articles of Confederation and why a new Constitution was created
- disagreements and resolutions during the Constitutional Convention including the Great Compromise
- the role of James Madison in the creation of the U.S. Constitution
- the main ideas of the U.S. Constitution’s Articles and the Bill of Rights
- the Preamble of the Constitution
- documents that influenced the Bill of Rights
- the first five U.S. presidents
What escape room activities are included?
Students will complete seven challenges. When completing the activities, students will use critical thinking and inference skills. Challenges include activities such as:
- decoding messages to read the Preamble, summaries of the Constitution’s Articles, and problems with the Articles of Confederation
- matching amendment numbers (Bill of Rights) to summaries of the amendments
- identifying and ordering of the first presidents
- reading information to determine the outcome of the Great Compromise
- matching important people and events related to the U.S. Constitution to the correct descriptions
- creating codes with given information
Is a digital version included?
This resource includes two versions of the escape room. The first version is a PDF escape room that can be completed in a classroom.
The second version is a digital escape room that can be completed in Google Forms. The digital escape room is self-checking so that students can review the answers to their work even when learning remotely.
What standards are covered?
This U.S. Constitution Escape Room is specifically aligned with the 2023 Virginia U.S. History SOL USI.7, although it closely matches most U.S. History standards related to the Articles of Confederation, U.S. Constitution, and Bill of Rights.
