What topics are covered in this Light Unit?

This Light Unit includes 7 detailed lesson plans. All lessons are hands-on and incorporate literacy skills. Students will–

  • Explain that visible light is radiant energy that moves in transverse waves and does not need a medium to travel through
  • Model transverse waves, including labeling the crest, trough, and wavelength
  • Explain that the greater the frequency a transverse wave has, the more energy it has
  • Explain that the visible spectrum has a range of colors that are determined by wavelength and model the wavelength for each color
  • Analyze what happens to light when it comes into contact with an object (reflect, refract, transmit, and absorb)
  • Analyze how light passes through different materials (transparent, translucent, and opaque)
  • Explain that light transfers radiant energy
  • Explain that radiant energy is transformed into other forms of energy with technology and through natural processes

What types of resources are included in the unit?

A variety of no-prep activities are included in these unit plans.

  • worksheets
  • hands-on activities and experiments
