Matter Task Cards
Matter Task Cards are a no-prep, fun way to review that matter is composed of atoms, the effects of temperature on matter, and mixtures and solutions.
Matter Task Cards includes 28 task cards, a student response worksheet, and an answer key. Questions are multiple choice, multiple select, and matching.
What will students review with these task cards?
With these Matter Task Cards, students will review:
- the definitions matter, mass, and volume
- that matter of any type can be subdivided into particles called atoms that are too small to see but can be detected by other means
- the effects of temperature on matter
- that the total mass of matter is unchanged during a phase change
- examples and characteristics of mixtures and solutions
- that matter is conserved when it is combined
What standards are covered?
These Matter Task Cards are specifically aligned with the Virginia science SOL 5.7, although it closely matches most science standards related to matter being composed of atoms, the effects of temperature on matter, and mixtures and solutions.
These task cards have been updated to align with the 2018 Science SOLs AND the 2025 Science Instructional Guides.
Is a digital version included?
These Matter Task Cards resource includes BOTH a digital version and a PDF version. The digital version can be accessed through Google Forms and allows students to easily self-check their work. You can also use the Google Forms task cards to track student progress.
When you purchase this product, you will be given access to a link that will allow you to open the file in Google Forms. You’ll then share that file with your students.
What if I want to create my own science task cards?
Four blank task cards are included so that you can create additional questions, if needed. For these task cards, you will print the blank cards and write your questions directly on the cards.
