What topics are covered in this Ocean Unit?

This Ocean Unit includes 6 detailed lesson plans. All lessons are hands-on and incorporate literacy skills. Students will investigate–

• salinity
• The properties of ocean water, including dissolved gases and dissolved solids
• The movement of ocean water, including waves, tides, and currents
• How ocean currents affect global temperatures and ecosystems
• The geology of the ocean floor (continental shelf, continental slope, continental rise, trench, abyssal plain)
• Categorizing ocean organisms (floating organisms, swimming organisms, organisms attached to the ocean floor
• Ocean food webs

This unit has been updated to align with the 2018 Science SOLs AND the 2025 Science Instructional Guides.
