Description
Thanksgiving Math Activity: Thanksgiving Dinner on a Budget
Thanksgiving Math Activity: Thanksgiving Dinner on a Budget is a fun way to integrate math standards and the Thanksgiving holiday! This Common Core and Virginia Standards of Learning aligned Thanksgiving math activity has students work on teams to plan a Thanksgiving dinner for 10 people with a budget of $110. Each team will be given 3 store flyers with different sale prices and coupons so that students can find the best deals to meet their budget.
Are differentiated versions of the activity included?
Two differentiated levels are included in this problem-solving activity.
- The first level has students determine what stores they will purchase each product from and what coupons they will use. They will then figure out the total amount spent and if there is any money left in their budget.
- The second level has students do the same but they must also look at portion sizes to determine how much of each product they need.
Different planning and recording worksheets are included for each level. There is also an option to include sales tax into their final costs with either version.
What skills will students practice with this Thanksgiving math activity?
With this Thanksgiving math activity, students will practice solving multi-step problems in a real-life scenario. Students will be required to add, subtract, and multiply with both whole numbers and decimals.
