Reconstruction Task Cards

Reconstruction Task Cards are a no-prep, fun way to review American life after the Civil War (1865-1877).

Reconstruction Task Cards includes 28 task cards, a student response worksheet, and an answer key. Questions are multiple choice, multiple select, matching, and ordering events.

What will students review with these task cards?

With these Reconstruction Task Cards, students will:

• the impact of the assassination of Abraham Lincoln
• leaders of Reconstruction including Abraham Lincoln, Robert E. Lee, Ulysses S. Grant, Frederick Douglass, Hiram Revels, and Andrew Johnson
• the similarities and differences between Reconstruction plans including Lincoln’s 10 Percent Plan, the Wade-Davis Bill, and Andrew Johnson’s Reconstruction Plan
• laws that gave more rights to African Americans including the Reconstruction Amendments and the Civil Rights Act of 1866
• laws and systems that negatively affected African Americans including sharecropping and Black Codes
• how the Freedmen’s Bureau affected African Americans
• how the Election of 1876 led to the end of Reconstruction

What standards are covered?

These Reconstruction Task Cards are specifically aligned with the 2023 Virginia U.S. History SOL USII.2, although the task cards closely match most U.S. History standards related to the Reconstruction Era (1865-1877).

Is a digital version included?

These Reconstruction Task Cards resource includes BOTH a digital version and a PDF version. The digital version can be accessed through Google Forms and allows students to easily self-check their work. You can also use the Google Forms task cards to track student progress.

When you purchase this product, you will be given access to a link that will allow you to open the file in Google Forms. You’ll then share that file with your students.

What if I want to create my own social studies task cards?

Four blank task cards are included so that you can create additional questions, if needed. For these task cards, you will print the blank cards and write your questions directly on the cards.

Other Information:

I recommend printing these task cards in color and laminating so that they can easily be reused from year to year, although this is not necessary. These task cards also print and are easy to read in grayscale.
