Groundhog Day Math Activities – 4 Probability Games
Groundhog Day is a holiday that typically goes unnoticed in the upper elementary classroom, but these Groundhog Day Math Activities are a fun way to incorporate the holiday into your day while still covering math standards!
What is included with these Groundhog Day Math Activities?
Four probability activities are included–
- Groundhog Race Dice Game: Students will add the sum of two dice to move their groundhog in a race.
- Groundhog Spin Game: Students will create a spinner and spin the spinner 20 times to determine what Phil will wear to the Groundhog Day celebration.
- Sample Space Worksheet: Punxsutawney Phil presents students with different scenarios, and they must construct a tree diagram or table to show all possible outcomes.
- Will Phil See His Shadow Worksheet: Students will determine the likelihood of Phil seeing his shadow under various weather conditions.
Through these games and worksheets, students will describe probability, create sample spaces, test predictions, and explain how probability changes when one factor in a scenario changes.
