How do the math SOL practice games work?
All of my Virginia SOL-aligned math Jeopardy games come with a version for PowerPoint AND a version for Google Slides.
The PowerPoint version should be played in presentation mode. The presentation has been coded to make the game very easy and interactive. Some of the features include:
- Go from the category board, to questions and answers, to the scoreboard, and back to the category board with single clicks.
- The category values disappear when they are clicked on.
- You can type scores onto a scoreboard while playing in presentation mode.
The Google Slides version has also been pre-coded for easy, interactive use. Some features of the Google Slides version include:
- Go from the category board, to questions and answers, to the scoreboard, and back to the category board with single clicks.
- The category values do not disappear when they are clicked on. This is a limitation of Google Slides. But, markers are provided alongside the category board that you can drag and drop over the category values after they have been used.
- You can type scores onto a scoreboard.

Do these math SOL practice games require setup?
The only setup required for these SOL-aligned math Jeopardy games is for you to open the presentation… that’s it!
You do not have to come up with math SOL practice questions but most questions are editable if you would like to change them.
What is included with each math Jeopardy game?
As previously mentioned, all of my Virginia SOL-aligned math Jeopardy games come with a version for PowerPoint AND a version for Google Slides. Both versions use the same questions.
Each game has 25 questions that are specifically aligned to the Virginia math SOLs.
Question types include short response, creating models, multiple select, and labeling models/diagrams.
Each question is linked to a slide with the answer so that students can quickly and easily self-check their answers.

How should these math Jeopardy games be played?
These Virginia SOL-aligned math Jeopardy games can be played independently, in small groups, or as a whole class.
For independent use, allow students to play the game at a center or assign it in Google Classroom as a fun way to practice for the math SOL test at home.
For small groups, give each student in the group a small whiteboard. Project the game on a laptop monitor or SMARTboard so that all of the students can see it. Each student should write their answers to the questions on their whiteboard, and all students should hold up their answers at the same time. Each student with the correct answer gets a point.
For whole class, assign the class to teams of three to five students. Then, play the same way you would if you were playing in a small group.

What are other Virginia teachers saying?
Teachers all across Virginia are using these fun SOL-aligned Jeopardy games to help their students learn the math SOLs and practice for the SOL test at the end of the year. Here’s what some Virginia Teachers have had to say about the math review games:
“These are games that actually work the way they are supposed to! I love that when the students answer a question, it disappears and they can easily see which questions have not been answered. This can be completed whole group, small groups, and even individually. This will definitely be used for SOL reviews before the spring test. Thank you for making great products that actually work and are based on Virginia SOLs.” (Ms. Martin)
“My students loved doing games for SOL review. I loved that it had a combination of multiple choice and short answer.” (Crystal H.)
“These PowerPoints were exactly what I needed to help students review for the upcoming SOL test. The questions were great and I liked how there were some open-ended questions which got the students thinking.” (Carlye D.)
