Ancient China Escape Room

Are you looking for a fun way to review the history, culture, and geography of ancient China? Look no further! This Ancient China Escape Room has everything you need! Whether teaching remotely or in-person, this classroom escape room is easy to set up, and students will have lots of fun reviewing what they have learned!

In this Ancient China Escape Room, students are in the process of traveling back in time to study ancient Chinese life when their time machine malfunctions! The only way to repair the time machine and return to the present is for students to successfully complete six challenges.

What will students learn with this classroom escape room?

Topics covered:

• The location of China in Asia
• Major land and water features around China and how the ancient Chinese used those geographical features
• Ancient Chinese inventions such as the compass, the kite, silk, and fireworks
• The construction and purpose of the Great Wall
• Ancient Chinese writing and calligraphy
• Ancient Chinese farming including terracing and crops grown
• Natural, human, and capital resources in ancient China

What escape room activities are included?

Students will complete six challenges. When completing the activities, students will use critical thinking and inference skills. Challenges include activities such as:

• analyzing a map and decoding clues to learn about the geography of China
• solving math problems to reveal true facts about ancient China
• decoding messages to learn information about ancient China
• matching terms and inventions related to ancient China to a correct description
• analyzing images to determine which are related to ancient China

Is a digital version included?

This resource includes two versions of the escape room. The first version is a PDF escape room that can be completed in a classroom.

The second version is a digital escape room that can be completed in Google Forms. The digital escape room is self-checking so that students can review the answers to their work even when learning remotely.

What standards are covered?

This Ancient China Escape Room is specifically aligned with the 2023 Virginia SOLs 3.3 and 3.5, although it closely matches most standards related to the history, culture, and geography of ancient China.
