Ancient Egypt Escape Room

Are you looking for a fun way to review the history, culture, and geography of ancient Egypt? Look no further! This Ancient Egypt Escape Room has everything you need! Whether teaching remotely or in-person, this classroom escape room is easy to set up, and students will have lots of fun reviewing what they have learned!

In this Ancient Egypt Escape Room, students are in the process of traveling back in time to study the ancient Egyptians when their time machine malfunctions! The only way to repair the time machine and return to the present is for students to successfully complete six challenges.

What will students learn with this classroom escape room?

Topics covered:

• The location of Egypt in Africa
• Major land and water features around Egypt and how the ancient Egyptians used those geographical features
• Ancient Egyptian inventions such as the clock, the 365-day calendar, and paper from papyrus
• The construction and purpose of the pyramids and the Great Sphinx
• Hieroglyphics
• Pharoahs
• Ancient Egyptian farming
• Natural, human, and capital resources in ancient Egypt

What escape room activities are included?

Students will complete six challenges. When completing the activities, students will use critical thinking and inference skills. Challenges include activities such as:

• analyzing a map and decoding clues to learn about the geography of Africa and Egypt
• solving math problems to reveal true facts about ancient Egypt
• using a key to interpret sentences written in hieroglyphics
• decoding secret messages to learn information about ancient Egypt
• unscrambling words related to ancient Egyptian inventions
• matching terms related to ancient Egypt to a correct description

Is a digital version included?

This resource includes two versions of the escape room. The first version is a PDF escape room that can be completed in a classroom.

The second version is a digital escape room that can be completed in Google Forms. The digital escape room is self-checking so that students can review the answers to their work even when learning remotely.

What standards are covered?

This Ancient Egypt Escape Room is specifically aligned with the 2023 Virginia SOLs 3.3 and 3.4, although it closely matches most standards related to the history, culture, and geography of ancient Egypt.
