Reconstruction of Virginia Escape Room – Virginia Studies SOL VS.8 & VS.9

Are you looking for a fun way to review the effects of Reconstruction on Virginia? Look no further! This Reconstruction of Virginia Escape Room has everything you need! Whether teaching Virginia Studies remotely or in-person, this classroom escape room is easy to set up, and students will have lots of fun reviewing what they have learned!

In this Reconstruction of Virginia Escape Room, students are in the process of time traveling back in time to study the effects of Reconstruction on Virginia when their time machine malfunctions! The only way to repair the time machine and return to the present is for students to successfully complete six challenges.

• the importance of railroads, new industries, and the growth of cities to Virginia’s economic development in the late 1800s
• the economic and social transition from a rural society to a more urban society

What escape room activities are included?

Students will complete six challenges. When completing the activities, students will use critical thinking and inference skills. Challenges include activities such as:

• Decoding information about the challenges Virginia experienced after the Civil War
• Unscrambling information about the Reconstruction of Virginia
• Decoding Jim Crow laws
• Identifying true and false facts about the Reconstruction of Virginia
• Solving math problems related to Reconstruction
• Matching people, terms, and events to their descriptions to create secret codes

Is a digital version included?

This resource includes two versions of the escape room. The first version is a PDF escape room that can be completed in a classroom.

The second version is a digital escape room that can be completed in Google Forms. The digital escape room is self-checking so that students can review the answers to their work even when learning remotely.
