Native Americans Escape Room – VA SOL USI.2

Are you looking for a fun way to review the first Americans? Look no further! This Native Americans Escape Room has everything you need! Whether teaching remotely or in-person, this classroom escape room is easy to set up, and students will have lots of fun reviewing what they have learned!

In this Native Americans Escape Room, students are in the process of time traveling back in time to study the first Americans when their time machine malfunctions! The only way to repair the time machine and return to the present is for students to successfully complete six challenges.

What will students learn with this classroom escape room?

Topics covered:

• Inuit (Arctic)
• Lakota (Great Plains)
• Kwakiutl (Pacific Northwest Coast)
• Pueblo (Southwest)
• Haudenosaunee/Iroquois (Eastern Woodland)
• Cherokee (Southeast)

Students will review the geographic locations of each tribe and the shelters they lived in.

Students will also review natural, human, and capital resources and identify Native American examples of each.

What escape room activities are included?

Students will complete six challenges. When completing the activities, students will use critical thinking and inference skills. Challenges include activities such as:

• Locating where groups of Native Americans lived on a map
• Matching each group of Native Americans to a description of the geography and climate where they lived
• Solving puzzles to show the types of shelter built by different groups of Native Americans
• Decoding information about natural, human, and capital resources
• Decoding information about the geographical locations where different groups of Native Americans lived
• Matching Native American tribes and terms to the correct descriptions

Is a digital version included?

This resource includes two versions of the escape room. The first version is a PDF escape room that can be completed in a classroom.

The second version is a digital escape room that can be completed in Google Forms. The digital escape room is self-checking so that students can review the answers to their work even when learning remotely.

What standards are covered?

This Native Americans Escape Room is specifically aligned with the 2023 Virginia U.S. History SOL USI.2, although it closely matches most U.S. History standards related to teaching about the Inuit, Kwakiutl, Lakota, Pueblo, Haudenosaunee (Iroquois), and Cherokee.
