This Virginia Studies A New Nation Jeopardy Game includes a fun, Jeopardy-style game to review the establishment and growth of the new American nation, with emphasis on the role of Virginians and events in Virginia during the 18th and 19th centuries. Versions of the review game are included for both PowerPoint and Google Slides.

What will students review with this Virginia Studies A New Nation Jeopardy Game?

25 questions are included in a Jeopardy-style game to review and practice the following skills:

• explain the roles of George Washington and why he is called the “Father of Our Country”
• explain the roles of James Madison and why he is called the “Father of the Constitution”
• explain the roles of Patrick Henry and the significance of his “Give Me Liberty or Give Me Death” speech
• explain how the Virginia Declaration of Rights and the Virginia Statute for Religious Freedom influenced the Declaration of Independence, the U.S. Constitution, the Bill of Rights, and the Constitution of Virginia
• describe the characteristics of American government as outlined in the Constitution
• analyze the Preamble of the Constitution and explain the significance of the phrase “We the People of the United States of America”
• describe Constitution Day
• explain how geographical features and technological advances impacted the western movement in the first half of the 1800s
• explain causes and events of Nat Turner’s Rebellion and how it impacted the institution of slavery

Each question is linked to a slide with the answer so that students can quickly and easily check their answers.

What formats of the game are provided?

This resource includes versions of the A New Nation Jeopardy Game for BOTH PowerPoint and Google Slides. The questions used with each version are the same.

How is this Virginia Studies interactive game played?

The PowerPoint version of this Jeopardy-style game should be played in presentation mode. Category values disappear when they are clicked on. The category values can be reset anytime by exiting the presentation and reopening it. You can type scores onto a scoreboard while playing in presentation mode. The presentation has been coded to help you easily navigate from the category board to questions and answers without scrolling.

The Google Slides version of this Jeopardy-style review game should be played in full screen, edit mode. Instructions and a video tutorial are provided that show how this is done. You can type scores onto a scoreboard but the category values do not disappear when they are clicked on. This is a limitation of Google Slides. But, markers are provided alongside the category board that you can drag and drop over the category values after they have been used. The presentation has been coded to help you easily navigate from the category board to questions and answers without scrolling.
